Name: Remus John Lupin
Alias: Dubbed "Moony" by his fellow Marauders in honor of his monthly transformations.
Age: 38. Born March 10, 1959.
House: Gryffindor
Special Abilities: Lupin is a werewolf, transforming during the full moon each month. The rest of the time, he is a kind, talented, and highly intelligent wizard. Remus has a mischievous streak that manifested itself during his years at Hogwarts, although he was the most restrained of the trouble-making Marauders. He is also an expert on Dark Creatures and how to subdue them. A vital member of the Order of the Phoenix, Lupin is undoubtedly powerfully magical. He is also loyal, hardworking, and self-sacrificing, but modest to the point of being self-deprecating.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Remus has light brown hair that is prematurely streaked with grey, making him appear older than he is. Unable to find proper work because of the stigma surrounding werewolves, he has little money or material possessions. His robes are shabby and patched, and his few possessions are careworn. He often appears gaunt, sickly, and tired, more side effects of his lycanthropy. Lupin is quiet and intelligent, but he has a mischievous side and is often underestimated.
Heritage: Half-blood.
Family: Very little is known about Lupin's family. It is known that his father somehow offended vicious werewolf Fenrir Greyback sometime in the early 1960s when Remus was a small boy. In retribution, Greyback bit Lupin, turning him into a werewolf as well.
First Appearance: Prisoner of Azkaban, chapter Five
General: Remus Lupin was born in 1959 to a wizarding family. A werewolf for many years, he looks older than he is and, at first glance, appears thin and weak. As his story progresses, though, it becomes obvious that despite outward appearances Lupin is a strong man and powerful wizard. He was skilled enough to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, and he is one of the few who can perform controlled wandless magic.
