James and Lily Potter

Name : James Potter

Age: 22 at his death

House: Gryffindor

Distinguishing Features: Naturally untidy black hair, hazel eyes, and glasses.

Heritage: Pureblood. Confirmed by Remus Lupin in Chapter 16 of HBP.

Family: Largely a mystery. James must've had wealthy parents, as his father owned an Invisibility Cloak that was passed on to James. Both parents are deceased.

First Mention: Chapter one of Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone.

General: James Potter was born in 1958 or 1959 to a Wizarding family of some wealth. The early demise of his parents (both died somewhere between 1975 and 1981) and his subsequent inheritance prevented him from needing to work later in life. He was therefore able to devote the short time between his graduation from Hogwarts and his murder by Voldemort to the fight against the Dark Lord.

Name : Lily Potter

Age: Died October 31, 1981, in her early twenties.

House: Gryffindor

Distinguishing Characteristics: Very pretty, with long auburn hair and green, almond-shaped eyes.

Heritage: Muggle-born

Family: Married James Potter after the pair graduated Hogwarts, and they had a son, Harry, a year before they were killed. Had one sister, Petunia, who, with her husband Vernon Dursley, has looked after Harry since Lily and James' death.

First Mention: Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, chapter one

General: Like her son Harry years later, Lily found out about the wizarding world only when she got an invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Although her parents were Muggles, they were very proud of Lily and her unusual talents. Lily's first wand, of flexible willow, 10.5 inches long, performed charms well, and she worked her way to the top of her class, becoming Head girl in her final year. She was also a favorite of the head of Slytherin and Potions Master at the time, Horace Slughorn, with whom she sparred good-naturedly. At the same time, she began dating James Potter, the cleverest and most popular boy at Hogwarts. Soon after their graduation, they married and had their son Harry.
