Distinguishing Characteristics: A particularly tall ghost.

First Mention: Passes unnamed in Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone, chapter 12, "The Mirror of Erised"; has not yet been mentioned by name in any books.

General: We know about the Grey Lady only through JK Rowling's revelations to fans. She has, however, been glimpsed in several pivotal scenes in the movies. For example, when Harry, Hermione, and Ron try to warn Professor McGonagall about the threat to the Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone, she is sitting in the back of the classroom. When Harry examines Tom Riddle's diary in Chamber of Secrets, she is humming beside him. Given that she is the Ravenclaw ghost, we can assume the Grey Lady is intelligent.
