Distinguishing Characteristics: A nose like a snout, ears like those of a bat, huge bloodshot eyes. Kreacher dresses in rags and is always totally filthy.

Heritage: House-Elf

Family: Personal family unknown. Has served the Black Family for generations.

First Mention: Order of the Phoenix, first seen at Grimmauld Place

General: Kreacher is the disagreeable, secretive, and mentally unstable house elf of the Black Family, whom he has served for "generations" at 12 Grimmauld Place. He is bitter and angry that he must serve Sirius Black (deceased), Harry Potter, and through them, the Order of the Phoenix; he would much rather serve his "true" mistress, Walburga Black (the deceased mother of Sirius and Regulus Black). He seems to prefer dark witches and wizards, as is apparent by his utter devotion to Walburga’s screaming, ill-tempered, and highly bigoted magical portrait. He likes to hide dark magical objects, as well as useless junk, in his "nest" or "lair", in order to keep the items from being thrown away or destroyed by members of the Order of the Phoenix. He has betrayed the Order once already by leaving Grimmauld Place, on the accidental "order" of Sirius Black. He then traveled to the Malfoy family’s home and proceeded to give away valuable information about the Order, Harry Potter, and Sirius Black. After Sirius’ death at the hand of Bellatrix Lestrange, Kreacher was inherited by Harry Potter. This pleased neither of them, to say the least. Kreacher now lives at Hogwarts with many other house elves, including Dobby, whom he particularly detests. Kreacher’s deepest desire is to have his head hung on the wall at 12 Grimmauld Place with the other unfortunate house elves that have served the Black family in the past.
